This one is polished and passivated. On stainless steel a smoother surface resists pitting better: there are fewer grooves for salt to sit in and the passive layer is stronger. Heat treated to H900 it carries a minimum yield strength of 1,170 MPa (170 ksi) and a hardness up to HRC 46, so under band load, a fish or a hit on the reef the shaft flexes and springs back instead of taking a set. There is no coating to crack when it flexes.
